UTi Opens New Facility Combining Freight, Logistics in Southampton, UK

UTi recently opened a combined freight forwarding and contract logistics facility in Southampton, UK. The new, 2,800-m2 (30,000-ft2) location is only 30 minutes from the Southampton Cruise Terminal and specializes in freight forwarding (air, sea and road) for all types of clients, including those in the pharmaceutical, fashion, beauty, and cruise line verticals.

"Our local team understands the environment and challenges of the cruise and maritime industry. Be it crucial parts for repair or important supplies at the next port of call, this new facility allows us to deliver a first class service," said Barbara Kearney, UTi Vice President, UK and Ireland.

"We also handle warehousing for several clients incorporating material management, vendor managed inventory, shuttle runs, return process management, pick and pack and quality assurance testing. Our multi-client warehousing service allows our clients to focus on their core business while we manage the flow of materials for them," she added.

The new facility is located at Unit 2 Airways Distribution Park, Wide Lane, Eastleigh, UK. UTi serves clients at a dozen freight and logistics locations in the UK.

JF3 Joins JFK Branch

UTi Recognized for Tech Solutions

CIO Review magazine has recognized UTi as one of the "20 Most Promising Logistics Tech Solution Providers." The magazine's October issue notes that UTi "leverages a wide range of dedicated warehousing solutions as well as multi-client warehousing, transportation management, and in-plant logistics services to serve various companies globally," and that among freight forwarders, "UTi's global information system is one of only three global end-to-end information systems in the industry, providing visibility and supply chain control to clients using a single platform."

The magazine adds that one of UTi's most innovative solutions is inventory optimization as a service: "Using this solution, UTi conducts daily replenishment planning and demand forecasting as an extension of the client's supply and demand planning teams." UTi Chief Information Officer Ron Berger explains in the CIO Review article that this user-friendly approach enables clients to avoid the difficulties and expense of purchasing and updating software or building and training a dedicated internal team.
