China Automotive Logistics Partnership Formed
UTi and Changjiu Logistics, the largest independent automotive logistics company in China, launched a strategic partnership recently in Beijing. The companies have joined forces to better serve global automotive original equipment manufacturers and suppliers in the booming Chinese automotive market.
"Our clients are very interested in what UTi and Changjiu Logistics can do together and we are committed to make this a successful partnership," says Ed Feitzinger, UTi Chief Executive Officer. Three areas of joint development are planned: railway solutions between Europe and China, VMI/production logistics for automotive OEMs and Tier 1s, and aftermarket parts and accessories distribution.
Developments are underway on the China-to-Europe rail service. Changjiu Logistics has had success operating the service for global OEMs and UTi is now running Europe-to-China shipments using the Changjiu Logistics network.
Ditlev Blicher, UTi President, Freight Forwarding, says the strategy is to "develop an inland transportation system for both component milk-run and finished-goods deliveries utilizing UTi's solutions and best practices and Changjiu Logistics' strong trucking and warehousing capability in key automotive manufacturing and industrial centers in China. These areas offer a critical mass of Auto clients for OEM/Tier 1 and Tier 2 and are key clusters for UTi and Changjiu Logistics to focus on together."
Pharma Capabilities in Europe Strengthened
UTi has strengthened its cold chain offering in Europe with an expanded Good Distribution Practices (GDP)-certified facility in Rome. The 1,700-square-meter facility, near Fiumicino-Leonardo da Vinci International Airport and the Trans-European Motorway, features one temperature-controlled room set for 2-8°C and two others in the 15-25°C range.
"We are Envirotainer QEP and C-Safe qualified for handling and pre-conditioning, provide assembly and distribution options, and manage a portfolio of insulated pallet wrapping options, including our proprietary, validated wrapping process, ZTM," says Phil Abbate, UTi Global Vice President, Pharmaceutical & Healthcare.
"Our pharma handling protocols and enhanced capabilities ensure that inbound and outbound pharmaceutical products are handled safely and securely to ensure product integrity," Abbate says. "Our Rome facility maintains the highest standards in pharmaceutical freight forwarding for our clients, with three temperature-controlled rooms and strict handling protocols that exceed good distribution practices and other regulatory standards."
UTi also recently achieved certification in the comprehensive IATA training and pharmaceutical freight certification program, the Center of Excellence for Independent Validators (CEIV), at Brussels Airport.
New Malaysia Offices Opened
UTi recently expanded its freight forwarding footprint in Malaysia by opening new facilities in Port Klang and Kuantan. "Our growth in footprint and investment ... reflect the momentum that our business in Malaysia has seen over the last two years," says Ditlev Blicher, UTi President, Freight Forwarding.
The new Port Klang facility "gives us an optimal presence in Malaysia and will allow us to expand with a more competitive position," says Vikram Paul, UTi Regional Vice President, Southeast Asia. UTi now serves clients from five offices in Malaysia.
The Port Klang office is located at A-7-1, 7th Floor, South Tower (Tower A), Lebuh Batu Nilam 1, Bandar Bukit Tinggi, 41200 Klang, Selangor Darul Ehsan, Malaysia.
